The department of History introduced B.A(Hons) History with the foundation of college in 1987.Presently having permanent ten faculty members, it teaching history at undergraduate levels to students persuing hons and programme courses. Under CBCS in the development of whose curriculam faculty members have also contributed various CORE,SEC,DSE,GE papers are offered to learners. Firmly rooted in the discipline of history offered courses makes an endeavor to provide knowledge about evolution of historical processes across time and spaces. From prehistorical times to present period. The focus on Indian history is entwined with an insight into wider perspective of world civilizations. The students are not only introduced to emergent historiography but are encouraged to develop critical thinking and use of analytical tools to grow as young researchers. An interdisciplinary perspective is also provided to understand the growth of different disciplines at the level of research ,publication and dissemination of knowledge. These efforts are meant growth of Students as responsible citizens of India with humane sensibilities toward fellow humanbeings.
Teaching,Mentoring, research and publication are an integral part of academic responsibilities of faculty members.Through innovative methods entailing use of ICT along with conventional methods of teaching sincere efforts are made to make learning an enriching experience for students.
Faculty members have distinguished themselves as many of them have been destoed with international/national fellowships,deputationship,Major- Minor project grants and scholarships.They are also engaged in upgrading their knowledge by participating in FDS,Seminars,Conferences and Workshops. Professor Amrit Kaur Basra was the coordinator of DU History Project (2012-2017) and under it the Archives inside the Viceregal Lodge were organized.Many have published books, aricles,Chapters, Monographs and are invited as resource persons.
Students along with faculty members are an integral part of academic and cultural activities.Itihas-History Association is very dynamic body under students council and continuous organizing activities for local aa well as outside students. It is also connected with activities organized by the University and other colleges and organizations.
Learning and employability are two connected aspects of discipline of History .It is evident as our students are teaching in Schools, Colleges and Universities.Many have pursued and are pursuing research in National and international Universities. Many are Bureaucrats, Documentary Makers, Planners and Social Activists.

Departmental Activities
Since its inception department has been organizing various activities that are meant to enhance intellectual, cultural and academic horizons of all stake holders. Following are the five most important events organized by the department on regular basis:
1. The holding of Orientation Programme and freshers’ party for freshers and fareweli for outgoing students. :
2. Holding of Seminars, lectures and Conferences and workshops by eminent historians, Environmentalists, Activists and policy framers. 3. Students seminars on specific historical themes. :
4. Annual festival by Itihas including lecture,mounted exhibition,paper presentations and competitions like making of rangoli,quiz,photography,Nukkad Natak. :
5. Field trips to historical spaces both within Delhi and outside. :
