Departments of Economics

The Bachelors course in Economics is designed by the Delhi School of Economics http://econdse.org/. The course is both intellectually demanding and professionally relevant. Strong emphasis is laid on critical understanding of economic theories and their application to a wide range of real world problems. Students are provided rigorous grounding in microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, public finance, monetary economics, international economics, development economics and economic policy-making, all of which equip them with necessary academic and quantitative skills required to excel in their future careers.

The Department of Economics also offers B. A. (Programme) Economics with the different discipline options, like English, ASPM, HRM and Mathematics. The department also offers general elective courses to honours students of other departments like Global Political Economy, Public Finance, Money and Banking, etc. Papers like Public Finance and Data Analysis are also taught to Eco (hons.) students as skill enhancement courses.

An all-round development of the students is also encouraged through their participation in other activities. Ecolibrium, the Economics Society of Delhi College of Arts and Commerce is active and diverse in its operations. A consortium of the students of Economics Honours of DCAC, it helps its members explore their skills and knowledge through various mediums and in turn, such participation fosters their growth and overall development. The Society organizes various departmental activities/events such as the Annual inter-college fest QUEST, lecture series via the Friday School of Economics, departmental fresher’s and farewell get-togethers and other invited lectures and interactive sessions. The department newsletter Ecossential is published annually at the session end. It provides a look into all the events that took place in the year gone by. Written, compiled and edited by the students with special inputs from the teachers, the newsletter perfectly captures the year in a snapshot and provides a suitable platform to share one’s ideas and views on a wide range of topics.

The complete nurturing of the students has resulted in many of our economics alumni pursuing their higher education from prestigious institutions like Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi School of Economics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jamia Millia Islamia University, Madras School of Economics, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, University of Hyderabad, IIM’s, London School of Economics and University of Oxford and Warwick.
